HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! :)

well, it's been one crazy busy end of the year... seriously. eric and i have had some sort of even almost ALL of the weekends... and the week of my birthday, my boss told me that they were moving me to full-time for the next 3 months. i'm going to work my magic and MAKE them keep me permanently. but we'll see. i'm just glad i got to have a tiny bit of extra money right before the holidays. :)

so, the whole month of december, i was SWAMPED with christmas cards. last year i made around 32? well, let's double that and that's how many i made this year... 60+ cards. all different too. i use a lot of stickers (they're simple and quick to do). i hope to one day start making my own. but for now, they're convenient. i won't post all of the cards today... but maybe 10 per post till i have posted all of them. we'll see. :) so here's the first batch. ENJOY! <3

this year's cards are SUCH an improvement from last year's. so excited! :)

while also making cards. i have been HUGE on making a lot of DIY projects. i made my own Christmas wreath. i bought everything separate from Target (i'm sure i could have found even more cheaper items elsewhere... but i was already at Target and decided i didn't like the pre-made ones. ) so when i got home, i put them all together. i ended up with extra pine cones, mini ornaments, and ribbon. and buying all the items separate was $2-$4 more than the already made ones. so in my eyes that was well worth the few extra bucks. and not to mention, i was extremely pleased with my outcome...

i can't believe next week is thanksgiving and well, let's just say the last 2 weeks of this month is very important to me. in 4 days it'll be my cousin natalie's birfday, in 5 days, it'll be 5 years since i started dating eric, in 7 days, it'll be thanksgiving (my FAVORITE holiday), in 9 days will be the Welter Christmas party (for those who don't know it's pretty much a family reunion/thanksgiving/christmas all rolled in one on eric's mom's side of the family), and in 15 days it'll be my/aunt stella's/my friend sarah's birfdays. :) so yes, lots of things happen at the end of the month.

i started my christmas card making last week. i am definitely liking what i've made so far. it's a major improvement (in my eyes) from last year's cards. but that's also considering that last year was my first set of cards ever.

i have A LOT more cards to make this year. last year was around 30, this year doubled. so now i have 60+ to make. and i'm going to begin making my christmas gifts here soon. because i'm on a tighter budget, everyone's going to be getting the same things from me. but they are craft-made, so i hope everyone enjoys them.

well, that's all for now. unfortunately i won't be posting any pictures of the christmas cards till after christmas. i don't want anyone knowing what they might be getting. but i'll post some of the other cards i've made for other occassions, next post.

ta ta for now. :)Tiff@nyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01532076463103176518noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8663573468142690000.post-37478993019256594662012-09-20T13:32:00.001-07:002012-09-20T13:32:28.358-07:00Fall is upon us...oh the things i can find on the internet. so, since i have had my thursdays and fridays all to myself, i've been looking up a lot of craft ideas. i Stumbleupon'ed a couple great ideas. - just so everyone knows, Stumbleupon is an internet application where you choose your interests (which there are a wide variety) and with just a click of a button, it randomly takes you to a site, based on those interests. so i've come to some great craft websites and blogs. it's wonderful. my next goal within the next year, is to learn to hand sew, since i don't have a sewing machine. - anyway, that's the gist of it. so, i will forewarn everybody (mainly the family and close friends) that the following pictures will be what i'll be working on for your guys' christmas gifts. you're probably not going to be surprised the day you open them anyway (even if i didn't tell you).

anyhoo, the first project was coasters. it only requires a few simple materials: mod podge, ceramic tiles, cardstock (or whatever paper products you desire like magazine cutouts, wrapping paper, plain colored paper, etc), and felt or cork for the bottom. here was the result of my first set:

this set will be a gift for eric's mom. her birthday is today and i wasn't quite sure what to get her or even make her. i have another set in the process of being made. i might have to switch them out. not quite sure if the above prints are her style. i don't know, i'm sure i'll figure it out.

The next project was scarves. i Stumbleupon'ed a site where they transform old t-shirts into something. i came across a Stranded Scarf and thought it was beautiful! so i tried it out. here was the outcome:

this shirt belonged to eric from his first year of college. he hardly wore it anymore and i wore it for around the house. this was my only "old" tshirt that we had since i had donated all of mine to make room when i moved down here. i was very glad of the outcome but i made note to fix a few things. i might have used too many strands. i could have easily, and probably should have, turned this into 2 scarves. either way i enjoyed wearing it. however, i had to throw this scarf out, because the day i wore it, i went back home to visit mom and some friends. and i accidently set the scarf on top of one of the gladeplug in air fresheners, except, we didn't have this one plugged in. it was sitting on top of the shoe shelf and i didn't see it. sooooooo it STRONGLY smelled of that. i put in eric's softball bag, hoping 1) it will freshen his bag up and 2) it would take away the smell from the scarf. but nope, it stayed just as strong as before. so, i put it through the washer and dryer. it took SOME of it away, but nope, still smelled strongly. then i left it in the sun, outside, for a couple weeks. nope that didn't work either. so i gave up and just threw it out. i had asked eric to buy me a lot of t-shirts from his work (he can get tshirts for as cheap as $1, since they were considered "defective," but not defective enough that someone couldn't wear it.) so, this too will be a great gift idea. :)

anyways, that's all for now. i have other projects lined up so i will have to share with you guys as soon as i get to them.

ps- it's football season... so i have to say... GO BUCKEYES! :) urban nation has begun and has so far done well! :)

it's been a little over a month since my last post. eric and i are nicely settled in, mostly.

i haven't wanted to kill him yet. so that must be good right? :)

ginger just moved down on sunday. she was a NERVOUS wreck monday, when we both had to work. i came home to some broken blinds and scratch marks on the door. let's just say, she is going through major separation anxiety. it's wednesday and she seems a little better. she's still panting quite a bit even when she's just laying, sleeping. she's still got a lot of anxiety in her. i bought some rawhide bones and a hard bone with filling inside. hopefully those can help. who knows. we'll see.

on another note, work has been really busy. my boss wasn't kidding when she said, no matter how hard i try, i will never catch up. you'd think credentialing would be easy peasy lemon squeezy. well actually, for the most part it is. at least what i've done so far. i'm sure there will be more difficult tasks in the future for me. but the filling out of applications is what takes the longest. one single application can take up to 2 days to fill out! and some applications are like 20 pgs. long! other than the i-never-feel-caught-up feeling, work is great! i love the ladies i work with. they are all so genuinely nice and willing to help! they are also fun to talk to!

eric and i finally started getting our weekends back. no more weddings, as far as we know, until next year. we haven't done much else.

here are some pics of the place, for those who haven't seen yet.
I looooooove the gold vellum... but it's most difficult to use with rubber cement glue. the paper is a little too transparent for it. i'll need to figure out how to glue the paper with out the glue showing... hmmm.....

but anywho... more cards will be made, once we i feel 100% settled. it still feels weird not being in the cleveland area anymore. i miss my friends.

First off, i'd like to thank all the aunties for everything they have done. i know you guys haven't had any hand in the moving process exactly, but i'd like to thank you for keeping mom company.

So, this past monday, i had my first day of orientation at The Christ Hospital. it was quite boring. there was a lot of stuff that i felt like will be more appropriate for the on-boarding employees who will have direct contact with patients. but what do i know, i suppose it's all beneficial in the end if everyone knew what to do in case of a chemical spill, etc. now, i'm not exactly working inside the hospital's main campus. i will be at an off-site location just a mile down the road. the department i will be working in is the credentialing department. the second day was a little more interesting. i especially loved the Compliance speaker. he was hilarious and from Boston, i noticed from his heavy accent. then today was absolutely annoying. we had to do our STAT testing. we had to read powerpoint slides for 10-12 different subjects and then answer test questions. if we passed, then well, we passed and got to move on. if you did not pass, then you had to keep retaking it until you do pass. then after that, i went to the office building i'll be at and met all the lovely ladies i'll be working with. there, i will be updating doctor's credentials and enrolling new on-boarding physicians and whatnot. so it's all a completely new environment for me. i'm really excited though. i just found out today too, that i will be working 2 more hours than originally planned. so that's a great thing :) part-time hours are moving on up. i worked with my boss's boss first hand today, but i didn't really do anything. i got myself signed up with citrix and that's about it. she initially had me help her with this project that is time-constrained, but she had one of the more experienced girls do it all, since i'm just too new. but i guess that's all.

i guess that's all for work. i've been just busy unpacking, when i'm not there... i feel like everything just happened so quickly! which it did, technically. but it was for the best reason. :) so far, eric and i haven't wanted to kill each other yet... so we'll see how long this will last. ;) no, we're going to be fine. if we beat the odds of a long distance relationship lasting, then i'm sure we'll beat the odds of moving in with each other.

well, that's all for now... gotta go continue unpacking :)Tiff@nyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01532076463103176518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8663573468142690000.post-36737372727265589412012-05-03T18:26:00.002-07:002012-05-03T18:26:44.711-07:00semester over.... soonSo, another close to another semester... students have their last week of classes and then finals next week. and then commencement the following week. i swear, time moves too fast. and i have news!

for those of you who i haven't talked to you, but i'm sure you've heard from mom, i'm moving out of cleveland and to cincinnati, with eric. we have found an apartment for a decent price. we both have decided, in our relationship, it was about time we move to the next step. and no, we're not engaged. you guys would know before reading this, if i was. :) anywho... here's a link of the apartment complex. not many pictures, but eric really liked it and knowing him, he wouldn't go for anything that he doesn't remotely like. here's the link of the complex: http://www.remingtonplaceapartments.com/cincinnati/remington-place/photos/

i'm really excited about our new adventure and really nervous about moving down without a job. however, i know if i don't do it now, i might not ever do it ever. i know i can find some sort of job and i am determined. either way, i am really excited.

aside from all that, i haven't really done much artsy stuff. i bought new stuff. some india ink and lithography pens for sketching. i used to use these for art class back in AP art, senior year. and i thought it'd be a great addition to my card making collection. so we'll see once we settle into the apartment. when am i going to find time to pack?!

hope all is well... signing off <3Tiff@nyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01532076463103176518noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8663573468142690000.post-41013234326946833982012-04-08T13:56:00.000-07:002012-04-08T13:56:52.639-07:00hello friends! So, it's been a crazy year so far. busy busy busy! as usual.

I've been a busy busy busy bee! let's see:

November 20th: eric & i celebrated our 4 years of being together :) he came to visit me up in cleveland and we visited the grandparents at the cemetery & then went to the infamous Melt Bar & Grill.

Just a few days after, I went to Cincinnati to visit him for Thanksgiving weekend. We ate at his Aunt Karen's house (we do every year) & then had a nice time relaxing at home on Black Friday. It was super nice to just be able to relax. We then headed back north to Toledo for his mom's side of the family's Thanksgiving/Christmas/Reunion. Then I was off that following Monday & Tuesday.

Next thing I know... BAM! I turned 26! boo..... another year older. so that must mean i'm getting wiser right? juuuuuuuust kidding. i'm still a kid at heart. :)

work has been pretty hectic and crazy. *ps- i gave up on the capital letters* this week is finals week. which means lots of students selling their books back for cash.

and next thing i know... next weekend is christmas! and then the next thing i'll know... new years! jeez!

well anyways. that was my mini update... now, when i say i was a busy bee, i really was. a christmas-card-making bee! :) i made so many! and there's still more to be made!
Her sister had come in contact with me via Facebook and wanted me to send a card to congratulate the couple. She had a project in mind where she'll have a lot of people, who April cares a lot about, have them send cards and give taht to her as a gift. or something. Well, i told her, since i've been into card making, i'll make mine. and here is what i got.

Above: graphite on paper. i created this piece for a friend of mine, whom i met at the bookstore when i was in college. we worked together. she was, then 17, a unique person. not to mention, young. she had many aspirations for her life. after i moved back, she had moved to chicago to pursue a degree in comparative human development. she seems to be doing extremely well and making a name for herself in the communities of LGBT & others. she asked me to design a tattoo for her and both her and i worked together to create an idea. she mainly told me how she wanted it to look (guidelines) and i put it on paper. this piece can be found on her right lower leg (calf area).

SF overviewWARNING: this blog is very long and may contain pictures that may not do the trip justice. carry on at your own risk.

we are back from san fran... i had a GREAT time! i want to go back. :( i am not ready to go back to work.

we did so much while we were there! here's what we did (for a 5mp camera phone, my photos turned out quite well):

Saturday (day of arrival): we ate dim sum (eric's favorite), walked around chinatown & wandered into downtown. visited Westfield mall and let's just say, it's MORE intriguing than the one in strongsville. then went to kirin (spelling?) chinese restaurant for dinner. eric enjoyed the fried smelt there. even though we've been together for almost 4 years, it still surprises me about what he likes as far as authentic chinese cuisine. he loves fish, but i never would have guessed the smelt. :) glad he enjoyed it. well, since we only had 2 hours of sleep the night before, we turned in for the night early so we can rest up for the next day's activities.

Sunday: we started our day with the golden gate bridge. that week was fleet week, so over the course of the day the blue angels and some other aircrafts put on a show over the golden gate bridge and bay area. they're so fun to watch. i don't know the last time i saw an airshow (probably when i was no older than 13 for the labor day or memorial day holidays). it brought the inner child back out again. :) after taking a numerous amounts of pictures we then headed to the ferry building, where we met with jun yee. for those who don't know, the ferry building marketplace is located at the embarcadero. we visited the food shops and cafes. i enjoyed it a lot! you know me, i LOVE food!!! :) we got lunch from Boccalone Salumaria: salted pig parts. eric and i shared the italian sausage sandwich and then we also grabbed an empanada from a stand i don't remember the name of. the food was SO gooooooood!!!!!! oh my goodness, if i did live there, i might end up fat. after the ferry building, we walked back towards downtown and eric and i rode the cable car back up to chinatown. it was our first time. while waiting, across the street were a huge group of protesters... and well, i saw my very first naked protester. ew gross....... as soon as we got to chinatown, eric and i proceeded to buy more souvenirs for people. so many cute things! for dinner, eric and i went to oyaji, a sushi restaurant. ben and i went to this restaurant a couple years ago and LOVED it. our service was kind of terrible, but the food was still great! :) it was still a good ending to our day.

Monday: it was a very rainy day, and we were originally going to go visit my grandparents. but because of the weather, we needed to switch activities around. So, since the Academy of Sciences was an indoor activity, we went to that instead of wednesday. we had a lot of fun. we took so many picture of the aquarium section (as usual for me). :) after the academy, we went and walked around ling yee's neighborhood. we visited the used bookstore that she loves and then we tried this one crepe place that she loves. i got the banana, caramel, and custard crepe. it was SO good!!!!! perfect for dessert. except we had it before our dinner. lol!!! then we also visited a tea shop to get tea for my grandparents. only to later find out that they don't drink tea! oh well. for dinner that night, we stayed home and ordered thai take out and watched "howl's moving castle". they had the best duck fried rice i have ever tasted. also, my aunt made "rice crunchy" which i have NOT had in SO long!!!! it was soooooo good!

Above (left): a couple of sea dragons. they were beautiful creatures, i want one!

Above (center): some sea anemones. i love the colors in this photo :)

Above (right): eric and i waiting for our ride outside of the academy :)

Tuesday: we toured alactraz. ling yee has lived in SF for a long time and has never been to it. so we had her take us there. it was great! we took SO many photos! it would have been cool to tour it at night. this took most of our day. after the tour, we went and got lunch at pier 39 and fisherman's wharf area. we ate at Boudin Bakery Cafe. I had the turkey avocado 1/2 sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder soup. it was delicious!! :) mmmmm so good! to top that off, we grabbed a macademia nut ice cream waffle cone. that was SO good as well! we then took eric to see the sea lions. it reminded my aunt of the time when ben was about 2 years old and how he mimicked them. we laughed :) we headed back to the apartment to relax. then eric and i had dinner plans around 7:30. we had dinner at bushi tei. a japanese-french fusion restaurant. we don't get to go to a nice restaurant very often, so we took the opportunity to do so in SF. :) it had pretty good reviews , 4 out of 5 stars. and we enjoyed dinner very much! loved it!

Wednesday: our last full day in the beautiful city. it was a gorgeous day out! so we took pictures at Legion of Honors. that place is beautiful. eric's an architecture major and he wanted to really go. then we toured the castro area. yes i took eric to the gay district. i love that place. i bought a few things for myself and other people. then we headed to my grandparents apartment. i was so nervous. i don't know why. i just was. when we got there, i never realized how bad my chinese was... i struggled. but all in all, the visit was good. eric got a drawing from my grandfather. my grandfather received an honorary degree for chinese calligraphy. he teaches both in a class room and one on one. he's a really talented man. he can speak: cantonese, mandarin, french, vietnamese, a little japanese, english, and possibly one other language that i can't remember. he's 89 years old, soon to be 90, and aside from a recent cataract surgery and slightly losing his hearing, he's still got a sharp mind, almost perfect health, and still moves very well. plus, you can't tell he looks almost 90. i don't have a picture, but believe me, he dosen't look as old as he does. :) and then you have my grandmother who only has high blood pressure, is 85 and doesn't have any other major health problems and also teaches dancing at the senior community center. they are truly talented people. now you know where we get our artistic side from. not to mention, the more i talk to my grandfather in person, the more and more my dad looks like him (just a younger version of my grandfather). after the visit, we headed back to chinatown for dinner. we went to R&G Lounge. and treated ling yee to dinner. we were very sad that jun yee couldn't make it, but we brought back leftovers for her. we then visited jun yee at her apartment to say goodbye.

So this pretty much concludes our first trip together. we both love san francisco and thank both aunties for everything they have done for us. they helped make this trip memorable and we couldn't thank them enough.

we will try to make this an annual trip. if not to san francisco, then to the other west coast cities. let's see what airfare is like next year :)

So just another day in paradise at work. Our regional is coming to visit tomorrow, so it was a mad house to try and get everything cleaned up. Not to mention our VP of the company is visiting on Tuesday. So yes. clean! clean! clean!

I'm slowly realizing i am running out of projects to post... what will i do?! well i must find time to create more, i suppose. but time is what i need to find first. if you guys find it, let me know. i'd greatly appreciate it! :)

WARNING: may contain nude drawings.

Since i minored in studio art, i had to take a nude drawing class. i have quite a bit of drawings from this class that i am going to split them up for the next few blogs. SO, if you're not the type to like naked people. then i would suggest not continuing with the next few blogs.

Above: Vine charcoal on drawing paper. Okay, so they're not naked, in fact... they're FULLY clothed. and in fact, they are eric's former room mates. hehe. we were practicing the shapes of shadows, only catch is.... no grays. almost similar to a negative, but the opposite. my favorite part of this piece is the couch on the right hand side.

It's been 2 years now that I've been here, and it still, somehow, surprises me.

Anyway. Here are some projects to look at :)

Above: Multi Media on paper. I expanded my horizons with 3D sculpture. This was my first class in sculpture. We predominantly used wire. But this assignment required to use wood. However, in my eyes they resemble conjoined carrots. haha.

AAAND the Browns are playing! The Buckeyes won yesterday, so let's hope the Tribe and the Browns pull their W's.

Here's some more works to enjoy:

Got a wake up call at 8:30 from my lovely boyfriend... so much for sleeping in this morning. Well... got up an hour later, had breakfast, and then got into card making again. Didn't do much this time. Just started brainstorming some ideas. I actually have a few cards I need to make for people. I'm really into it. It's really fun! :)

So, I'm sporting my jersey... have the game on... & making cards. It's beautiful outside and we have the doors wide open. Happy Fall! :)

Here are a few more projects I've done my Sophomore year of college.

Above: Graphite on Sketchbook Paper. My friend Karrie, fell asleep on the couch while studying for an Animal Sciences class & I had some art homework to do. and voile! She became my assignment.

We had to do an exaggerated self portrait. I exaggerated my eyebrows, hair, and um chest area. I love the hair... but everything else I could have improved on.

Oh hey, just another subtraction piece. We took various view points of a still life and combined it into one piece. And I'm getting closer to October 8th. In almost 4 years of being together, Eric and I will be making our very first trip together, that isn't within Ohio. To my favorite place.... SAN FRANCISCO!!! :) I'm so excited because he's never been and he can't wait! I know he's going to love it.

Well here's a few more projects I've done these all my sophomore year of college.

So, as you can tell, I still tried to keep up with my anime drawings. This was done on a scrap piece of cardboard and in permanent marker and graphite.

Above is all done in graphite on drawing paper. This was a major test of my ability to create something that required A LOT of my attention. We took a still life, drew it, and then used crosshatch. Crosshatching is where you use a series of lines to create the various shades and forms of objects. This took a total of 13+ hours to complete. In return for my hard efforts, this piece was mounted in the art building for the rest of that semester. I felt so accomplished and proud of myself. It was definitely rewarding.

Above is another subtraction piece. Our concentration this time was drawing crumpled paper. This exercise helped us understand harsh vs. soft shadows. This also served as an exercise to draw paper that is not in its flat form. This was tough but once I got into my zone, I just kept drawing and I was quite okay with my result.

Hope you enjoyed today's entry.
Tiff@nyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01532076463103176518noreply@blogger.com2
